Semiarundinaria fastuosa 'Viridis'

Maximum height: 35 ft.
(More often 4 - 5 ft. for us)
Maximum diameter: 1.5 in.
(More often .25 in. for us)
Minimum temperature: -5ºF
(The roots are at least 10ºF more hardy.)

Species in this genus need to be dug as soon as the ground thaws in late winter to early spring; late March through mid April. Orders for Semiarundinaria species need to be placed by March.

Known as Green Temple Bamboo, this bamboo is prized for its very straight and upright growth habit. In warmer climates it can be a very fast runner.

Here in zone 5 it's been quite slow growing for us.

It's one of the species we grow more as an ornamental grass since it top kills each winter, sending up new growth each spring.

Semiarundinaria fastuosa 'Viridis' is one of very few bamboo species that can be grown indoors as well as out. When grown indoors a south facing window is preferred.
