Semiarundinaria fastuosa 'Viridis' growing happily around an ornamental apple tree, showing the low growing border it can create in zone 5.

Known as Green Temple Bamboo, this bamboo is prized for its very straight and upright growth habit. In warmer climates it can be a very fast runner.

Here in zone 5 it's been quite slow growing for us.

It's one of the species we grow more as an ornamental grass since it top kills each winter, sending up new growth each spring.

Semiarundinaria fastuosa 'Viridis' is one of very few bamboo species that can be grown indoors as well as out. When grown indoors a south facing window is preferred.
