Pleioblastus viridistriatus growing in Rochester Indiana zone 5b

This beautiful variegated bamboo makes a great ground cover. It should be mowed to the ground early each spring before shooting to make way for the bright new growth. The old growth can look a little ragged after winter.

It will grow well in full sun here in zone 5b, but the color looks the best when it has afternoon shade so that the color doesn't fade out.

It's very resistant to mites due to the undersides of the leaves being coated with fine hairs.
